Minnie Dip

From open position, partners parallel, in handshake hold, leader's steps:

(back rock:)
LF back (1)
rock RF & pull RH down (2)
rotate R 90° & bend both knees to go down & step LF (3)

    leader's RH up
hold (7)
(stomp off:)
step LF (a)
step RF (8)
rotate L 90° to face partner for back rock - now in open position

(into right side pass or j-hook return)

Notes:

  • Leader's RH goes diagonally down after back rock lead on 1 count (never goes up from the waist level for the back rock lead). This is the lead for the figure.
  • Some instructors object to the downward movement of leader's RH to lead the figure, and instead want the follower to watch leader start the figure (visual lead) and match the second half of it.
  • Need to stay close enough to the partner on 5 count to not be too far to reconnect on 6 count.
  • The two steps on and-8 together are called a stomp off.
  • Following figure can start with a back rock or a side step, leader does not always have to back rock.
  • Leader turns toward follower first, follower must wait for leader to either turn toward her and lead the back rock or remain side by side and go into side step.

Combos:

  • Leader's UAT into mini dip
  • Leader's UAT into right side pass into mini dip
  • Throwout with hand change into handshake into mini dip

6 Count / 8 Count Basics

Any sequence of the following;

This is good practice for leading and following 6 count vs 8 count patterns.
