Bounding Unicorns

East Coast Swing

Frame/Posture

Torso upright.

Closed position: partners are facing each other, hips and shoulders are parallel.

Single Step Basic

Leader's steps:

LF back (1)
rock RF (2)
LF left (3-4)
rock RF (5-6)

Double Step Basic

Leader's steps:

LF back (1)
rock RF (2)
LF tap together (3)
LF left (4)
RF tap together (5)
RF right (6)

Triple Step Basic

This is also called just "basic", unqualified.

Leader's steps:

LF back/center (1)
rock RF (2)
(triple step left:)
LF left (3)
RF together (a)
LF left (4)
(triple step right:)
RF right (5)
LF together (a)
RF right (6)

Technique

Basic can be rotated in either direction.

Rotating left is a common setup for underarm sendout.

Since throwout is done to the left rather than forward as in American social swing, a common thing to do is rotate basic right, then do one basic rotating left into a throwout or another figure.

Lindy Step

Leader's steps:

LF back (1)
rock RF (2)
triple step left (3-a-4)
RF right (5)
rock LF (6)
triple step right (7-a-8)

Throwout Left

Leader's steps:

LF back rock (1-2)
triple step left rotating L 90° &
assume RH pushes follower into open position (3-a-4)
triple step in place (5-a-6)

(into back rock)

Since the partners are parallel in closed position, the throwout involves the follower going left relative to the leader unlike American Social swing where the follower ends up essentially in front of the leader.

Underarm Sendout

This is very similar to underarm sendout in AS. The difference is that, as in EC partners are parallel, the RH lead is mostly to leader's left whereas in AS the RH lead is mostly forward.

Underarm Return

This is again very similar to underamr return in AS. LH lead in EC is across the leader left to right instead of toward the leader's right shoulder as it would be in AS.

IIRC underarm sendout + underarm return in EC together are called the UAT.

American Spin

(From standard open position, to standard open position.)

From open position, leader's steps:

back rock (1-2)
triple step in place & (3-a-4)
raise LH to high five position at face level
push LH to spin follower on 4 count
triple step in place (5-a-6)

American social equivalent of American spin is standing spin.

Cuddle With Exit

(From standard open position, to standard open position.)

From open position in double hand hold (achieved by doing a throwout into double hand hold), leader's steps:

LF back & separate while maintaining double hand hold (1)
RF together (2)
triple step in place & rotate follower CW into sweetheart (3-a-4)
triple step in place & finish rotating follower (5-a-6)
LF back rock (1-2)
triple step in place & rotate follower CCW out of sweetheart (3-a-4)
triple step in place & finish rotating follower (5-a-6)

It seems that cuddle without an exit is not really a thing in EC swing.

Hammerlock With Exit

(From standard open position, to standard open position.)

Leader's steps:

LF back rock (1-2)
raise LH & rotate follower right &
LF triple step in place (3-a-4)
RF triple step in place (5-a-6)

LF back rock (1-2)
LF triple step in place & rotate follower left (3-a-4)
RF triple step in place (5-a-6)

Walks & Points

Leader's steps:

LF back (1)
RF back (2)
LF back (3)
RF back (4)
LF point forward (5)
LF together (6)
RF point forward (7)
RF together (8)

Walks & points are done from closed position.

Promenade

This may be called "quick and slow promenades" in Arthur Murray parlance.

Leader's steps:

LF back rock (1-2)
triple step left facing partner (3-a-4)
RF left facing L, rotate L ~60° and RH turn follower out (CW) ~60° (5)
hold (6)

(into throwout)

Triple step left and the RF step left (counts 3-6) can be repeated, two times total is a good number.

Promenade Triple

This is similar to promenade but the single slow step is replaced by a triple step.

Leader's steps:

back rock
triple step left facing partner & rotate L 90°
(triple step forward with RF leading:)
RF forward forward of LF
LF behind RF together
RF forward

(repeat the two triple steps)
(into basic)

Combo: basic -> American spin -> basic -> rotate basic left -> promenade triple left -> basic -> throwout left
