Digital Phase Tower Speakers
Digital Phase AP-2.1
- 1" tweeter
- 2x 6.5" woofers
- 42.5" height x 14.25" depth x 13.25" width
- Frequency response: 35 Hz - 20 kHz
- ~80 lbs each
- MSRP: supposedly $1700 in mid-late 90s
I very briefly auditioned them. My impression was that the speaker sounds like a 6.5" woofer that is trying to do everything, and failing. The speaker lacked low frequency extension and also lacked clarity. To be fair, I was listening to it standing up, which is significantly vertically off axis from the tweeter, but the I believe tweeter is simply placed too low in the cabinet to begin with.
These are large speakers, I feel that modern designs (e.g. NHT/Definitive ones) produce better sound in a smaller footprint.
Digital Phase AP-4
- 4x 1" spun titanium dome tweeters with neodymium magnets
- 4x 6.5" carbon fiber impregnated polypropylene woofers
- Frequency response: 35 Hz - 20 kHz
- Sensitivity: 92 dB @ 1 W/1 m
- 50" height x 17.75" depth x 16" width
- ~120 lbs each
Interesting that these quote the same frequency response as the AP-2.1 despite having much larger cabinets and more woofers?
